Sewell Archive

During my time at Sewell Archive, I developed personal photography projects that allowed me to apply the skills I gained throughout my internship. I explored landscape photography by documenting Ho‘Okipa Beach, capturing its scenery, wildlife, and visitors. I also continued my editorial photography practice with a styled photoshoot featuring model Cora Fernandez, shot at a waterfall and alongside a vintage Studebaker.

My time with sewell archive.

My internship at Sewell Archive was a transformative experience that contributed greatly to both my professional and personal growth. I gained hands-on experience managing physical and digital archives, learning how to organize, preserve, and store photographic film and negatives while strengthening my communication and organizational skills through close collaboration with my supervisor. Living and working in Maui broadened my perspective and inspired my creative practice through its diverse culture, people, and environment. One of the most valuable aspects of this internship was having the time and space to focus on creating my own artwork, which allowed me to develop my individual artistic voice outside academic expectations. The mentorship I received from Tom Sewell was equally impactful; his guidance, encouragement, and firsthand insights into art and life strengthened my confidence as both an artist and an individual. I was also incredibly fortunate to receive unwavering support from the Sewell Archive team. James Mylenek was patient, knowledgeable, and instrumental in guiding me through my responsibilities. Olivia Coletti welcomed me like family from the very beginning and became a close friend, mentor, and role model, showing me constant compassion, support, love, and a sense of familiarity that made Maui feel like home. The people I met at Sewell Archive have become like family, offering encouragement and support that extends far beyond my time on the island. This experience reinforced the importance of curiosity, adaptability, independence, and meaningful human connection, lessons that will continue to shape both my artistic practice and future career.
